Age: 54
Canon: Legend of Korra
Canon Point: The end of episode Book 4: The Coronation
Physical Description: Lin's typical design It should be noted that Lin seems to be on the tall side for a woman. She's developed a decent amount of muscle. Her hair is grey with age (and likely stress) and she has green eyes. She bears two scars on right cheek from an accident involving her sister and metal cable being broken. Normally seen in her metal uniform although she does occasionally wear a trench-coat over it.
Possessions: N/A
Companion: N/A

Personality:
Lin is a woman with a hard exterior. On the surface she's not the most open, sometimes harsh with her words and doesn't shy away from conflict or sharing what her opinion on a matter is. She's easily considered strict and given that she serves to protect and aid the civilian welfare of the city. The hard exterior of Lin also makes her never shy away from showing her displeasure in some form, even going to sarcastic or smart-mouth commentary if it fits her. Her smart-mouth can be exchanged for some very, very blunt words about her opinion or the situation. Beyond that her displeasure is always easy to notice because she has no problem expressing it. She can lay out her displeasure out in the most obvious statement. She might display her displeasure with a simple sarcastic comment. There are times when she may simply settle for a dirty look and walking away.
As police chief she places value in the way things should be and maintaining a certain level of order. While she has no problem enforcing the rules she isn't the prime example of following them. On occasions where what she believes to be the greater good cannot be achieved within the law she will go outside of it. She's never gone too wild or against the law when it comes to standing by her morals or doing what's right. Very little stops Lin when she's got her mind set. Whether it's inside the law or not, she will do it as long as it's the right thing to do. It might involve running into a situation where she may not make it out alive but she'll do it. She is more than willing to sacrifice herself for others. If her life can be used to save others then she is the person will give her life no matter of personal feelings.
On a deeper level, she's got some problems that are being worked out. They are the kind of problems that keep a wall built up around her and makes it difficult for her to sustain close, personal relationships. This is especially true when it comes to relationships that develop or end in a grudge. Lin is one woman who can hold a grudge for a long time, as she has with Suyin and Toph. Her relationship with Tenzin can be an example as well. She remains mostly civil with him despite their breakup years ago but it takes time and danger for her to move past that grudge and anger. Suyin and Toph though, she held onto anger against them for decades, even refusing to speak to them because of how angry she was at both of them. It took dealing with repressed memories and a fight to finally accept Suyin and her family into her life. When she did though she reforged that bond quickly and was able to tell her sister that she loved her before throwing herself into danger. Similarly she had no problem taking out her grudge against her mother when they were all trying to work together. In the end however she can grow and change and ends up accepting them both into her life. It creates a slightly easier to approach woman. Not by much but she can at least smile with those she grows close to and even crack a few jokes. Her sense of humor needs some work though.
She's also aware that she's ended up where she is in life due to no small part but trying to gain her mother's attention. Although she doesn't appear to carry a large deal of regret where she ended up. She does good work. She knows she does good work and she knows she's good at what she does. A younger Lin may have regretted how she let a desire for approval to control so much of her choices but she's made it work. She's found a purpose and in rebuilding old relationships, she's found a life that has more people in it and more to fight for.
All around Lin is an older woman whose strong but still rough around the edges. She's a woman who is stubborn, sometimes much to the frustrations of others. She has a strong sense of duty and right versus wrong. She isn't a woman whose controlled or even influenced by fear. She'll stare fear down and take it down. She has her faults, weaknesses when it comes to completely understanding others and their emotions. She doesn't always manage to connect fully to people and her blunt nature can cause a few ruffled feathers. There is no questioning that, save for certain emotional situations or connections, she strives for working towards the greater good. She does so without expectations of gratitude. She doesn't go through life expecting people to tell her how thankful they are for her. For her it is doing the job that's enough. She doesn't need more than that but she can appreciate it when it comes along.

History:  Linkerino to the avatar wiki

Sample:
Lin was used to the ins and outs of being a cop. She was used to dealing with the gangs. She was used to fighting and she was used to the paperwork. Her office often contained more paperwork for her to do through a day than some might think possible to manage. It always depended on the crime in the city. There were times when Republic City was more peaceful. Times when they weren't chasing gang members or as the past few years had been, chasing crazed madmen who were going after the Avatar. Korra's appearance had changed a lot. It changed the lives of people, it changed the city and even the world. Lin carried a bit of respect for the young avatar even if she did think the girl could use a hand restraining herself sometimes. Over the few years while Korra recovered she had kept in touch with Tenzin and Suyin. The airbenders were doing their best to aid those in need. There were times she could use the aid of an airbender to scout out hostile forces. She didn't ask for help very often but she was far less ashamed to do so now. Suyin's contact was more for comfort or to let her know if she had heard anything of Opal. Her niece was doing a fine job of making her own path. There was no doubt about it.

She folded her arms over her chest and looked out the window of her office. Now there was a new problem arising. The "Earth Empire", as Kuvira called it. She didn't trust that woman. A pity. Someone who had been handpicked by her sister to help in protecting Zaofu. Either way it was clear that Kuvira couldn't be trusted. That woman was taking power. They would have to get her to back down. They couldn't rush in blindly. Kuvira had spent years amassing an army. Even if she or anyone else wanted to charge they needed to play it smart. She sighed. Three years of  relative peace wasn't too bad. Perhaps once they handled the situation with the Earth Empire things could go back to normal. As normal as it could be for any of them. Her arms fell to her side and she strode out of her office. Whatever their plan was she was going to find out what it was, when they were to strike and how she could help put a stop to this. It needed to end before it escalated into a problem none of them could handle.

And just for extra, her d_p voice test
